I have a Netgear EVA8000 media player which succesfully accesses media on both Windows XP and Vista shares and streams it to my TV. A new PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with similar shares cannot be accessed. I have tried Guest accounts, admin accounts, full access accounts with and without passwords and I cannot access the media.

In the Netgear device, after creating a share on W7, I can scan all shared drives and the Netgear will initially see the shared folders. It will even detect the media in the shared folders but it will not play it saying that access is denied. If I then try again, the Netgear does not even see the folders, and will not until the W7 machine is rebooted, or the share re-created. I have tried Homegroups and public folders as well, and they do not work either.

Hi Novak, If you have a look at the thread link that you gave me, you'll see that there are 2 issues with Netgear and Windows 7 compatibility. The first concerns the Netgear software DEW, of which I have no interest, and the second which is the Netgear accessing Windows 7 shared folders and files. This is the one which is causing all of the problems.

Laptop Samsung R40Plus 2250 Carson Laptop Medion Netgear EVA8000.

The Netgear box will happily access shares on XP and Vista and stream video, music and pictures. It is only shares on Windows 7 that it cannot access correctly. To be more precise, the Netgear can see the shares and it can even see the files in the folders, but it cannot access those files to stream them to a TV. It does not have the correct permissions. Please read the mesages in the thread, particularly the one from muzicman61. I have tried the following tests, all of which with the Windows Firewall turned off:- • General shares for read/write with access to everyone.

• Specific shares with access to admins only. • Public folders with access to everyone and specifically admins • Homegroups • Media streaming on and off In short I have tried everything that I can think of and everything that I can find in any forums, and believe me there are a lot more people like me who have come to the same conclusion, Windows 7 shares behave very differently from those on Vista and XP. By the way, in all of the above tests, I have been able to access those W7 shares from other XP and Vista machines with no problem. So to my way of thinking you have an operating system that cannot provide a similar level of functionality to 2 previous versions.

Aside from this rather glaring schoolboy error, I think W7/64 is a great product, or at least it will be when it's finished.

I have 2 Netgear EVA8000 digital entertainments systems. The computer I use to store all the videos, pictures and music are located on various drives on a Core 2 Duo Extreme computer running Windows 7. I have a number of other computers on the network (Windows 7 and Vista).

None of the Windows 7 computers running Windows 7 can see the Digital Entertainers. Prior to upgrading from Vista Ultimate to W7 Ultimate, these computers readily saw the Digital Entertainers. Likewise, the Digital Entertainers no longer see the computers (usually. Sometimes they do, sometimes not. Most-often not). Again, they saw all computers when they were Vista.

On the W7 computers network discovery is ON, firewall is set to allow inbound and outbound connections on the Private profile, and the various files, folders and drives are setup via SHARE. What needs to be done to share files and folders between Windows-7 computers and non-Windows-7 devices? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Hi jnccomcast.net, Welcome to Microsoft Answers. Are you using a wired or a wireless network connection? Are you able to connect randomly to the network?

Panasonic Pbx Unified Maintenance Console Keygen Generator Adobe. I would suggest you to refer to the below mentioned link and use the troubleshooters to check for errors - Also, I would suggest you to temporarily disable the firewall and then check if you still face the same issue - Follow the below mentioned steps to disable firewall: • Look on the desktop or in the notification area for an icon that represents firewall software. Move the pointer over each icon in the notification area to read the tool tips that describe whether an icon represents the firewall software.

If you locate the software, go to step 2. • Look in Control Panel to determine whether firewall is installed on your computer. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Locate the firewall software in the Installed Programs list. • Right-click the icon for the firewall software, and then click Disable. If this option is not available, click Exit. Now check if you are able to connect. Use one of the following methods to again turn on the firewall software: • Right-click the icon in the taskbar, and then click Enable.

If you do not see Enable in the menu of options, contact your firewall software manufacturer for more information about how to turn on the software. • If the option to turn on the software is not available when you right-click the icon, restart the computer. If the issue persists I would suggest you to check if there is any update available for the network adapter. I will also suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter and then check – Do the uninstall procedure of drivers mentioned below only if you have a back up CD of the driver - • Click Start, and then click Control Panel. • Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.

Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

• In Network Adapter, expand Network Adapter, right-click the devices listed, and then click Uninstall. • When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK. • Restart the computer. After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed. Check after this procedure. Hope this helps.

As to your first two questions above' 1) It is connected via a wired network 2) Yes. Any and all devices can connect randomly to the home network I tried each of your steps above (I am using Windows Firewall, and diabled it, as well as Microsoft Security Essentials, which I disabled). None of them resolved the issue. I am able to connect these devices to an identical computer which is running Windows 7 with no problem.

It appears now to be only the computer (running Windows 7) that has all the media files on it. FYI: the digital entertainers see the computer, and the folders in question. But when you scan for files the digital entertainers do not see anything. There is one file that needs to be written to (by the digital entertainers) on the comupter in question. When you try to, you get the error 'unable to write to the desired location'. As far as I know, I hav all of the folders and files shared with the Homegroup and with 'everyone'. As additional FYI, I have a Vista Ultimate computer on the same network and it can see all the Windows 7 computers but is unable to open anything on the Windows 7 computers.

This leads me to beloeve there is a general setting someone on the Windows 7 computers that is not allowing non-homegroup/Windows 7 computers from seeing or accesing their folders and files. Any more advice??
